Project Goals: Part two of the overall Preamble Taproom project saw artists Pat Milbery and Vancouver-based Danny Fernandez (Def3) transform the front entrance of the building into a 3D B-29 Bomber. While murals of planes are nothing new, Milbery and Fernandez aimed to create a piece that had movement and depth while using the given space in a unique way.
Blending elements of realism on the body of the plane with clean geometric lines around the outside of the piece created a sense of movement – one can almost see the planes propellers moving as it cuts through the air! Rather than paint the mural as moving from one wall to the next, starting the plane on the corner of the building helped created the 3D feel and added an extra element of movement to the piece. It was quite the brain buster to work on but has quickly become one of the most popular pieces of art at the brewery!
